Kalaram Temple

The most significant temple is the Kalaram temple located in the Panchavati area, Nashik. This temple built in 1794 by Gopikabai Peshwa, is another architectural grandeur, with the motif, pretty much analogous to that of the Trimbakeshwar Temple. The speciality of the temple is that it was built with black stones.

The Temple

The temple got the name Kalaram Mandir as the idol of lord Ram is of black colour and the 'Kalash' is made of 32 tons of gold. The temple is made by complete black stones, which has four doors facing East, West, South and North. The stones were brought from Ramshej 200 years ago. It took 23 lakhs of rupees and 2,000 workers to build the temple in 12 years. This 70 feet high structure has been built with black stone extracted from the mine of Ramsej Hill. The copper peak of the temple is gold-plated and looks ravishing by day and night as well.

Idol

The devotees worship idols of Lord Rama, Laxmana and Sita here. Nearby is the 'Sita Gumpha' where Devi Sita is said to have stayed during her exile. The idols of Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana are sandy black decked with ornaments. Various small temples dedicated to Lord Vithala, Lord Ganesha and Lord Hanuman surround Kalaram temple.

Festival

During festivals like Ram Navami, Dasara (Dusshera) and Chaitra Padwa (Hindu New Year day) great processions and 'Utsav' take place.

Muktidham Temple

Just about 7km from Nashik could be seen the pure white Muktidham temple near Nashik station. You soul would be engulfed in peace and holiness once you see the Muktidham temple which is made up of pure white marble. The temple has a very unique architecture with 18 chapters of Gita engraved on the wall. A visit to this temple is considered as equivalent to visit to 4 Dhams. Nashik is located in Western Ghat on the banks of Godavari River and is famous for its scenic beauty and pleasant weather.

There are many places of attractions around Muktidham temple. The holy tank of Ramkund, which is believed to have been the bathing place for Ram and Sita, the 2000 year old Pandavleni Caves, the picturesque view from the Someswar temple, and of course the largest Artillery center of Asia, can also be reached on a hired car. The best time to visit Muktidham temple is during the kumbh mela.
