Kolkata

Kolkata is the capital city of West Bangal. The three villages namely: Kolkata, Sutanuti and Gobindapur, where the Britishers settled after they got tried with the trading business. Then later they moved out of this village and after ten years they built a fort known as BBD Bag. This is well known for the trading place.

The growth of Kolkata gained the attention of the nawab’s. In 1756 Siraj-ufd-Daulah took Kolkata from British. In 1757, Kolkata was regained by Robert Clive, who also captured the French settlement of Chandernagore. He convinced Siraj’s uncle Mir Jafar to join him to work against the recapture of Kolkata.

In 18th century, Calcutta became famous in trading and opened many institutions that will help the people in education. In 1905, Lord Curzon divided Bengal into two different regions. Calcutta was the main place for the independence rally. In 1911 Partition was taken back and the capital was declared as New Delhi. In 2001, Calcutta was renamed as Kolkata.

Kolkata is known for its culture, artistic, and heritage, it is known as birth place for Indian culture. Kolkata has few famous names called as "City of Furious, Creative Energy" and "cultural capital of India".

Shopping

New Market: This is famous place to shop shiny plastic clips, faux crystal ware, flowers, fabric, toys, luggage, ready-to-wear clothes, shoes, crockery, candles, swimwear, and uniforms.

College Street: This is the place for the college students to buy books, magazines and other items. This is also called as youngster’s paradise.

Dakshinapan Shopping Complex: This is the place where you get trendy clothes for the ethnic or the party wears. Famous Silk sarees are also available here.

Transportation

Air Transportation: It is called as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport; it is situated at Dum Dum which is 18km away from the city. In 1975 Kolkata Airport came up with the first cargo terminal. It also serves for domestic and International flights.

Water Transportation: The water transportation is facilitated by sea liners and cruisers. River Hoogli provides ferry boats. There are trams are also provided all-round the city.

Bus Transportation: Kolkata transportation includes many private buses that handles the entire city, state buses that connects between various stats, mini buses only for some fixed destination etc. CTC buses have their terminals at the major terminals like that of Esplanade, Golpark, Behala, BBD Bagh, etc.

Places to see

  • Fort William: Built by Robert Clive in 1780. This was built to protect fort from the Muslim attackers. There are many museums inside the fort that reminds the history of the previous days.
  • Victoria Memorial: An amazing place reminds you the glimpse of the past, where you find the great peoples photographs that have done much great work during the development of India.
  • Nicco Park: Situated at Salt Lake, is an amazing amusement park. It is type of Disney world in Kolkata with lots of games and rides.
  • Eden Gardens: Amazing Gardens which will attract many visitors and it is known as cricket stadium.

Kolkata people enjoy the nightclubs to the maximum with full energy and enthusiasm. Nightlife in Kolkata is very interesting and different.
