US Green card application procedure

If you have
already submitted Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, to
renew your 10-year expiring/expired "Green Card," please do NOT resubmit your
application.
NOTE: You may be eligible to file Form I-90 online.

WHO NEEDS TO APPLY?
Lawful Permanent Residents who were issued an Alien Registration Receipt Card
(Form I-551), commonly known as a "Green Card," with a ten-year
expiration date on the front of the card and the card is either expired or will
expire within the next 6 months.
WHEN TO APPLY FOR A RENEWAL CARD:You may submit your Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident
Card, up to six (6) months prior to the expiration date on the I-551 card.

If you are filing because your card was never received, or was issued with
incorrect information due to USCIS administrative error, please see the Special Instructions below.
If you are filing for any other reason, please mail your completed Form I-90, Application to Replace
Permanent Resident Card, and appropriate fees directly to the following
address:

Filing Fee
If you are filing for the following reasons, the base application fee of $185
and the biometrics fee of $70 are required. Total filing fee = $255.

If you are filing for the following reason, the base application fee of $185
is not required. The biometrics fee of $70 is required. Total filing fee =
$70.
- I have reached my 14th birthday since my card was issued.
If you are filing for the following reasons, the base application fee of $185
is not required. The biometrics fee of $70 is not required. Please review the Special Instructions if you are filing for these
reasons.
- My authorized card was never received.
- My card was issued with incorrect information because of a USCIS
administrative error.
Special InstructionsIf you are filing because your card was never received, you
must mail a new I-90 application using Application Reason
" b" My authorized card was
never received, and any supporting documentation, to the USCIS Service
Center/National Benefits Center (NBC) that processed your previously filed I-90
application. For the Service
Center/NBC mailing address, please refer to the I-797 "Notice of Action"
and/or e-Filing Confirmation Receipt Notice that you received upon submittal of
your previously filed I-90 application. In addition to the new I-90 application,
applicants are encouraged to send a copy of the I-797 "Notice of Action" and/or
the e-Filing Confirmation Receipt notice issued for their previously filed I-90
application. I-90 applications submitted with Application Reason
"b" do
not require the $70 biometrics fee or the base
application fee.If you are filing because your card was issued with incorrect
information due to USCIS administrative error, you must mail a new I-90
application using Application Reson "d" My card was issued with incorrect
information because of a USCIS administrative error, and any supporting
documentation, to the USCIS Service Center/National Benefits Center (NBC) that
processed your previously filed I-90 application. For the Service Center/NBC mailing
address, please refer to the letter that came with your I-551 card, also
known as "Green Card". This letter provides the address for the Service
Center/NBC that processed your previously filed I-90 application. The Service
Center/NBC address can also be found on the I-797 "Notice of Action" issued for
the previously filed I-90 application. In addition to the new I-90 application,
applicants are required to send the original
I-551 card containing incorrect information, and documentation that supports the
requested correction.AFTER YOU APPLY
USCIS will schedule your biometrics appointment to have your biometrics taken
at a USCIS Application Support Center (ASC). You will be receiving a biometrics
appointment notice with a specific date, time, and place where you will have
your fingerprints and/or photos taken. You MUST wait for your biometrics
appointment notice to arrive in the mail prior to going to the ASC for
biometrics processing.
What to bring to your biometrics appointment:
- Biometrics appointment notice.
- Photo identification. Acceptable kinds of photo identifications are:
- Passport or national photo identification issued by your country, or
- Driver’s license, or
- Military photo identification, or
- State-issued photo identification card.
- Required initial evidence, including:
- Your prior card, or
- Other evidence of permanent residence or commuter status
- Supporting documentation, which may include but is not limited to:
- Court ordered name change,
- Marriage certificate,
- Birth certificate, or
- Police report for a stolen or lost card.
