What are the skills I need to equip myself with before I leave for the US to be able to manage on my own?

Cooking, driving, sewing (for small tears and stitching buttons) and taking care of yourself. Before leaving India, do visit your barber/beauty parlour, as these services are expensive in the USA. Take along a sewing kit with lots of needles, threads, buttons, hooks, Indian Music and any other items of personal preference. Also keep photographs of family and friends and get a list of contact information in the US/Canada, as you will find yourself lonely here.
