Q If I have not negotiated with my employer for medical insurance, how can I go about getting this done? What will it cost me?
A It is very important to insure yourself again health catastrophes in the USA as there is no nationalized health care system and medical assistance is very expensive. Health Insurance falls into 3 categories:
  • Health Maintenance Organizations,
  • Preferred Provider Organizations
  • "Fee-for-service" or "Indemnity" plans.

In return for the payment of a fixed monthly premia, the insurance company pays the price of a fixed amount of medical expenses, minus any deductible you may choose. The premia amount depends upon the plan you purchase. Medical insurance is a must. Dental depends on the firm's policy. The insurance cover could vary and some firms have better coverage than the others for which they have to pay a higher premium. This again could vary. Normally insurance does not cover eyes. You have to pay for your own eye testing and glasses. It is useful to get your eyes checked in India and come with a spare pair of spectacles or contact lens.
