New Indians in USA calling back home over telephone

Q What would be the cheapest way of calling back home over the telephone? Should I get one of those AT&T or Sprint calling cards? Where are these available?
A Every apartment has telephone connection. The local telephone service provider like Bell Atlantic, Ameritech, SBC, etc. provides facilities to make calls within you region or state. You have to call them and give them necessary details for billing purposes to activate your line. While your basic local telephone service will cost from $20 to $35 per month, the price of long-distance service varies greatly. You will probably have to choose a long-distance telephone company like MCI WorldCom, AT&T, Sprint, etc for your non-local calls. Most long-distance telephone companies offer domestic and international calling plans. The domestic rates are generally cheaper in the evenings and during the weekend. Some plans offer a flat rate for all domestic calls made anytime. You can compare domestic plans at the company's Web sites. Also make sure to ask for any special promotions or offers while signing up.
