How do I apply for an International Driving License and for how long is it valid? How can I get a driving license in the US? |

You will need to apply and collect your International driving permit (IDP) while you are in India. Please check with the nearest Road Transport (RTO) office. The IDP has limited validity, so you will need to get a driving license (DL) in the USA. State laws regulate issuance of DLs and the Department of Motor Vehicles in your state will issue your DL. But in general you will be required to:
- be of eligible age,
- pass a vision test,
- pass a written test about state traffic laws, and
- pass the road-driving test.
For the road- driving test you will need to take lessons. You will need necessary documentation proving the above requirements before applying for your DL.
