"Dual Citizenship"
As far as I know the Indian government keeps talking of taking this progressively forward (thru the PIO card for example), but nothing concrete has happened about granting full dual nationality. What's their problem in granting dual citizenshio?!!

I am really mad at the Indian govt for not granting dual nationality. For heaven's sake, they keep asking us for help and attempt to tug at our heartstrings with talk of our Motherland, but when it comes to actually doing something for us, they treat us as aliens. What on earth is their problem??

I read that the committee on the Indian diaspora is going to be in Dubai....is anyone going to be meeting the committee members? How do we get access to them - or Mr Singhvi who is heading the committee?

I suggest that we should organise an international conference of NRIs to
discuss the issue of Dual Citizenship (DC). One aim of this conference should
be the creation of an NRI committee to pursue the DC matter in earnest.
I am ready to help in organising such a conference either abroad or in
India itself.

With best wishes

SEEKING DUAL CITIZENSHIP IS VERY DANGEROUS SUBJECT. WE SHOULD VERY CLEADRLY UNDERSTAND ITS IMPLICATIONS. HOW MANY COUNTRIES RECOGNISE DUAL CITIZENSHIP. EVEN IF INDIA GRANT IT YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY LOOSE THE CITIZENSHIP OF COUNTRY OF WHICH LAOREADY HAVING. A PERSON HAVING DUAL CITIZENSHIP IS ALWAYS LOOKED UPON WITH SUSPICON. EVEN TALKING OF DUAL CITIZENHIP MAKES PIO VEDRY UNRELIABLE AND LOYAL TO NONE. PLEASE DO NOT PURSUE THIS AND UNDERSTAND THE REASON FOR NOT AGGREEING TO THIS BY INDIAN GOVT.

4. "RE: Dual Citizenship"
Not granting dual citizenship to PIO's for reasons of "national security" is a myth. And by not granting it, the Indian government's preoccupation in dealing with national security issues is no less. One only needs to view the current events in Kashmir and the North East of the country. And if one cannot do that, right at the heart of the capital, with the recent defencegate scandal. If national security is the impediment, then the government needs to clean up its act, not deny dual citizenship.

Moreover, whenever the nation needs help, PIO's have come forward to help. The recent efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Gujarat Earthquake victims, by the NRIs is but one example. During the economic crunch that India faced, NRI's and PIO's came forward to invest in the Resurgent India Bonds to help the nation without batting an eyelid.

The government needs to reciprocate not because we are asking for it, not because we are petitioning for it, but because we are deserving for it and its been long overdue

I completely agree with Mr Patel. I read that FOUR MILLION Nepalis legally work and live in India WITHOUT needing work permits or any such thing. As Nepali citizens, they automatically have the right to live and work in India. Nepalis are foreigners aren't they? So how come Indians holding foreign passports can't work and live in India without needing visas? This is a ridiculous situation.

Where did the Indian Airlines hijacked flight take off from? Kathmandu. I have nothing against Nepalis, but if at all the Indian government needs to be concerned about "foreign nationals", it should worry about the nationals of India's neighbours rather than most of us Indians in the US, Europe, the Gulf or Australasia. To say that granting NRIs dual nationality goes against India's national security interests is total rubbish.

I can't think of people who are more patriotic towards India than PIOs. Having lived abroad, we perhaps realise the value of our home country more than those who reside in India itself. How likely are we to go around causing "security problems" in the country we love so much?

6. "RE: Dual Citizenship"
I heard that India allows Dual Citizenships for Minors until the age of 18. Utill the age of 18 the child can have both a US and an India passport. Is this true? If so is there any Govt web site which clearly mentions so?

Thanks

Ravi

I dont think dual citizenship should be given just because other countries have it. You want to be an Indian just be an "INDIAN". This proves how valuable our citizenship is.

Dear Sir!!
I repsectfully disagree with your statement. i am indian yet i choose to immigrate to the US for education and a better oppurtunities that india would not be able to give me. my friends and family are in india and so are my emotional ties. You have absoultely no idea what circumstances make people leave thier homeland it is so easy to just write ultimatums like you did!! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GIVE ME A JOB THAT TAKES CARE OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS AND PROVIDES FOR ME? people have many reasons for leaving but atleast NRI's keep putting money into the indian economy!! you have written if u want to be an indian remain indian...i think i am as indian as you i work hard earn money and send it back to my family and also invest in teh indian economy! who are you to decide an enitre issue of citizenship without the slightest idea! get some other opinions and contemplate before you write ultimatums like this next time!!!

11. "RE: Dual Citizenship"
Hey,

Why do you need dual citizenship? If you are so much interested in the US, and think that this is the only country that recognises talent etc. thats fine. They stay here. Why like a loser are you scared and would like to still have Indian citizenship? You can do whatever social service, investment, help you want even without being a citizen. India will never stop you or ill-treat you just because you are not its citizen, okay? Its a land where great souls found peace and made it their home - ex., Mother Teresa etc.

Or you want to use India as an escape bunker when there comes some backlash against Indians in the USA?

12. "RE: Dual Citizenship"
I think you should check your facts. Indians who have lost their citizenships do not have complete freedom in investing i India. I know for a fact that non-citizens cannot buy land, and start factories, which prevents PIO's from giving back to their mother land

10. "RE: Dual Citizenship"
That is because, Indian government knows very well that when once you get dual citizenship, you are going to use India as a base to dump your trash and use the US for all your prospects!!! The way Charles Sobhraj, Dawood Ibrahim, Hindujas and others are doing.

13. "RE: Dual Citizenship"
Does any one know what exactly is holding up the paper work for dual citizenship, and who is responsible? What can we do to accelerate the legislation?

This is an absolute necessity for our beloved country and we need to pin this down.
