Western Values And Eastern Challenges

From : Nalin Miglani

Dear Sir/Madam,

It was a great idea to reproduce the lecture.

It summarised, in a very articulate way, a number of my own beliefs on the subject. It provided some key new insights.

The only constructive criticism that I would have of the lecture is: Going forward, to internalise a lot of the 'western' positives listed in the lecture, we can refer back to key Indian concepts like Dharma, Karma, Arth and Kama. These concepts, existing before the arrival of the foreign rulers, can direct us to the same western (I would prefer to label them as universal) values without a sense of 'aping' the west which we proud Indians, as Mr Murthy accurately observes, are loathe to do.

Thanks again for bringing the article to our notice. Regards,
Nalin Miglani
