Dual Citizenship/PIO

From : Sumy Augenstein

Dear Sir,

I am a person of Indian origin living in the US for the last 15 years. For 10 of those years, I held on to my Indian passport in the vain hope that sooner or later the Indian government would allow dual citizenship, enduring constant inconveniences both within the US and abroad. Finally I gave up, and got a US passport. Would I hold on to my Indian passport, if I could have both? Absolutely. Would I hold on to my Indian passport if I live in the US and could only have one? Of course not. Would I feel more committed to India if I was an Indian citizen? Undoubtedly. Why does the Indian government have such a hard time understanding that?
