200,000 PIO millionaires in US

Despite the recent economic downturn in the United States, the Indian community has retained and even increased their wealth significantly. This was according to a report released this week by Merrill Lynch, a global financial services company.

While the total size of the Indian Diaspora is estimated to be about 20 million strong, the size of the community in the United States is 1.7 million. According to the Merrill Lynch report, .the median income of this community is over US 60,000 dollars when compared to the US national average of 38,885. The report also states that there are 200,000 millionaires of Indian origin in the United States. It should be noted that the report considers all assets including home ownership while determining the wealth of an individual.
