NRI legislator raises $400,000 for Congress bid

Raj Goyle, an NRI member of the Kansas House of Representative has set historical record by raising $403,083.68 during his first three months as a candidate for Congress. According to the Examiner.com, the amount collected is the highest, so far in the history of Kansas‘ 4th Congressional District. While Goyle was first time in the office during 2006, has set record for raising the highest amount ever for state house. Notably he was the first NRI to win the election and serve the 87th district of the Kansas legislature. Goyle is only the third ever to serve in the US House of Representatives. “I‘m proud to have the support of so many people,” Goyle said. More than eight hundred donors contributed for the raising of the sum. Half of the contributions to his campaign were $100 or less.

Goyle defeated was elected to the Kansas House of Representative after defeating three time incumbent. Again in 2008 Goyle won re-elections with 67 percent of the vote. He is in the hunt for the seat now held by Todd Tiahrt, who is not in a row for re-election in order to run for the Senate. Among the Republican candidates are businessmen Mike Pompeo and Wink Hartman as well as state senators Dick Kelsey and Jean Schodorf. Kansas‘ 4th Congressional District has been in Republican hands since 1994 when Tiahrt unseated Democratic Rep. Dan Glickman. The Wichita-based district went 58 percent for Sen. John McCain last year and 64 percent for President George Bush in 2004. It includes all or parts of 11 southeast Kansas counties.
