Cisco Systems has appointed Padmasree Warrier as the Chief Technology Officer. She was serving as the chief technology officer at Motorola and resigned that position when Motorola Chairman and CEO announced his departure. According to some analysts, Cisco intends to increasingly expand in the communications sector beyond its networking business.

Warrier has M.S. degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University and B.Tech from IIT New Delhi.
