New Jersey Commissioner of Transportation Kris Kolluri served as the Governor of New Jersey on December 27 2006. He is also the last in the line of succession to the governors seat, and without his presence, the Legislature would have had to appoint a replacement for the vacationing Gov. Jon S. Corzine and three other high-ranking officials who were also out of state.
So Kolluri became the 117th New Jerseyan since 1900 to become acting governor. Kolluri, an immigrant from India, has degrees from Rutgers, Johns Hopkins business school, and Georgetown Law. He worked in several Congressional offices and was acting transportation commissioner for a couple of months before officially taking the post in March.
