British Indian Chitra Bharucha, originally from Tamil Nadu, will head the worlds largest broadcasting corporation, BBC. Ms Bharucha will take over as the Chairman of BBC in January, though in a caretaker capacity following the sudden resignation of Michael Grade who has decided to join BBCs main terrestrial rival.
Ms Bharuchas appointment, even if short term, makes her the first woman and the first Indian to head BBC, the largest broadcasting Corporation in the world with a 26,000 strong staff in the UK alone and a budget of 4 billion pounds. Bharucha, a qualified hematologist has lived in Britain for 34 years and has held high profile jobs in hospitals in Northern Ireland.
