Indians require visas to travel through UK
UK has introduced new visa controls which will require citizens of six countries including India to have visas to travel through the UK. The six countries in the list are India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Angola, Cameroon and Lebanon. Until now, nationals from these countries have been able to travel without a visa if they are only passing through Britain on the way to a third country.
The new rules come into force from midnight on October 15 and will mean that transit passengers will have to apply for the £27 visa before travelling through UK.
The authorities claimed that this was in response to intelligence that some nationals of these countries are using transit visas to flout current immigration controls. The British Home Office says it will try to minimise inconvenience to genuine onward passengers. People who have already booked their travel tickets will not need the visas if they travel before midnight on 20 October.
