A prominent Non-Resident Indian businessman, Chiranjeev Kathuria, is contesting as a Republican candidate for US Senate from Illinois, from where no Indian-American has been elected to the Senate before.
The 38-year old Kathuria, who was born is New Delhi and moved to Illinois with his parents when he was only eight months old, has founded and built businesses valued at a combined $1 to $2 billion.
He graduated valedictorian from a suburban high school and went on to earn a medical degree from Brown University and an MBA from Stanford University.
