30 Indians freed from inhuman environment in US factory
|
|
Thirty Indians have been freed after being held under inhuman conditions in Tulsa, Oklahoma. According to a PTI
report, the Indians who were without proper visas were being exploited and made to work in a pickle factory without
adequate food and were paid half the minimum wages. According to the report they were made to sleep in a small room
in a warehouse and were locked in with a guard outside.
They were rescued when some of them managed to escape to a nearby church. One of those who heard their story in the
church was a former US Justice Department official in the Civil Rights Division who contacted the authorities and
had them released. The FBI and Immigration and Naturalisation Service authorities are looking into the matter.
