Airlines slash fare from Gulf to India
|
|
Four airlines - Indian Airlines, Air India, Gulf Air and Oman Air have decided to slash airfare to various Indian
destinations for three and half months period to encourage more traffic during the off season which has just started.
According to the Oman Observer, the four airlines have decided to have a common reduced fare from 1 August, 2002 till 15
November, 2002. The reduced fare will be for flights from Muscat to most Indian destinations.
The fare reduction comes as a huge relief to many Indian passengers who are very sensitive to airline pricing . They expect
the airlines to follow the lower airfare policy even after November 15, 2002 when the school related vacation seasons start
again. Various Indian social organisations have been demanding a reduction in the abnormally high airfare between India and
the Gulf destinations. However, the current decision to reduce fare has more to do with business compulsions than the demands
made by social organisations.
