Punjabi, Gujurati and Urdu instead of French, German and Spanish
|
|
European languages such as French, German and Spanish should be scrapped in
favour of Punjabi, Gujurati and Urdu according to British head teachers.
According to British media reports, the head teachers are urging the
Government to remove the requirement in the national curriculum that
children between the ages of 11 and 14 study at least one European foreign
language.
The teachers felt that the linguistic abilities of ethnic minority and
refugee children were ignored because they had to learn another European
language as well as mastering English. At the annual conference of the
National Association of Head Teachers, the motion to encourage Asian and
African languages was almost unanimously passed after delegates from London
described their pupils' mastery of three or four languages.
