India's Home Minister Mr LK Advani will meet top American leaders during a six-day visit to the United States starting on January 8, according to the Indian Express.
Among those Mr Advani will meet are:
Secretary of State Colin Powell
Attorney General John Ashcroft, who sent him the invitation
The Mayor of New York (the newly appointed Michael Bloomberg)
Top officials of the FBI and the CIA
The Express reports that a "brief session" with President Bush is also on the cards. Mr Advani will also visit "Ground Zero", the site of the WTC.
The focus of Mr Advani's trip is, inevitably, terrorism. An Indian Home Ministry official was quoted as saying ''We are seeking greater co-operation with the FBI. Though Attorney General Ashcroft has expressed a desire to draw upon India's expertise in tackling terrorism, there's a lot we are eager to learn from them."
Mr Advani will be accompanied on his trip by Intelligence Bureau chief K P Singh and Home Secretary Kamal Pande.
