The newly constituted Goan NRI cell launched its web site, www.nrigoa.com, on Dec. 24 as a prelude to online registration of members from across the globe in a bid to create a database of Goan NRIs.
Goans in the Gulf are invited to put forward their views and suggestions for the betterment of NRIs in particular and Goans in particular. The email address for NRIGFC is info@nrigoa.com
The cell will also be known as NRI Goa Facilitation Centre (NRIGFC). NRIGFC is also in the process of setting up insurance schemes, particularly for those working abroad.
The NRIGFC will channel entrepreneurship skills and resources of NRIs towards boosting the Goan economy and to operate schemes to be announced by the government for the benefit of the NRI community.
The committee will also ensure adequate measures for the protection of land holdings and properties of NRIs of Goan origin.
The government is also planning to draw up need-based schemes. A comprehensive insurance scheme is to be launched, which will cover loss of job and loss of income, it is learnt.
Other schemes are also being worked out, which will cover various eventualities like death abroad, pre-mature return and duping by recruitment agents and permanent disability resulting in pre-mature return.
The NRIGFC has been asked to examine in detail the concept of job reservation and business loans to NRIs on their return to Goa.
