India will open four new consulates in Afghanistan, media reports say. India was one of the first countries to rush into Kabul and reopen its embassy there,
after the fall of the Pakistan-backed ruling Taliban.
Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh was quoted as saying, '"A decision was taken that there would be four additional consulates that will be opened in the months ahead at Jalalabad,
at Kandahar, at Herat, and at Mazar-i-Sharif." He added that an ambassador would be appointed before the year-end.
However, why Afghanistan needs five Indian consulates is anybody's guess!
