India Times reports that a call center in Bangalore, India will respond to
telephone calls from distressed individuals in the US and try to alleviate
their problems by offering counseling.
Phoenix Global Solutions, the wholly owned subsidiary of Phoenix Home Life
Mutual Insurance, plans to finalize the pilot project shortly. Once the
business model is proven the company plans to hire psychiatrists and
specialists to take the calls in India.
"This will be a new business model for us. So far we have been
concentrating on marketing our products in the insurance and health care
segments, so we were making outgoing calls. With this new contract, people
will be calling in," said Satish Ban galore, managing director Phoenix
Global Solutions
This is the first time a US company is trying to get counseling outsourced
from India. Mr. Bangalore declined to divulge the name of the client or the
value of the order, but revealed that "consultants" at the call center in
Bangalore will be trained by the client.
Counseling is a big need and a multi-million dollar business in the US. And
some of that is waiting to flow into India.
