BBC reports that India’s, Karnataka state has outlined plans to develop the state's nascent hardware industry.
"We have now decided to set up a hardware technology park in Bangalore as a special economic zone so that there are no bureaucratic hassles,”
said B. K. Chandrashekhar, State Minister of IT in Bangalore. Several concessions would be offered to global companies to begin operations in the park.
India hopes to woo IT hardware companies to create jobs, foster domestic demand for computers and help bridge the digital divide in India.
The creation of a domestic market for computers will be dependent on reduced prices for PCs. The provision of computer stations and information kiosks in
rural areas will help bridge the digital divide.
