A NRI in Manhattan, Bharat Dewasingh, has been charged in a federal court
with threatening to use a weapon of mass destruction according to a PTI
report. This is a crime that carries a possible life sentence.
Bharat Dewasingh and a co-worker, Evelyn Tayor, both employees of a carpet
company in Manhattan, allegedly wanted to scare their bosses with a fake
anthrax threat.
Officials say Taylor and Dewasingh admitted to writing a threatening note
and leaving it on the third floor of the ABC Carpet and Home Store in
Manhattan. The note - "anthrax is here" with a picture of a Osama bin Laden
follower - was found near a cash register and led to evacuation.
Authorities in the US have warned that any person making fake threat would
be severely dealt with as it leads to disruption and takes already stretched
resources of law enforcement agencies away from investigation of genuine
cases.
