Indian-Americans continue to face American anger

Following the September 11 terrorist attacks, people of Indian origin continue to face American anger with the needle of suspicion constantly being pointed to them.

Over the weekend there were two separate attacks on Sikhs in Seattle, Washington. In one incident Karnail Kail Singh, the owner of a Inn, was assaulted with a wood and metal cane. The assailant is reported to have shouted ''Go to Allah'' and then knocked him down unconscious. Kail Singh needed nine stitches.

In a separate incident again in the Seattle area, 23-year-old Rubinder Singh was hit from behind when crossing the street and knocked to the ground.

The New York Times on Monday reported an incident where a 46 year-old Indian consultant with J P Morgan, Uday Menon was frisked and handcuffed. His crime - attempting to watch a 'popular' broadway show with his wife on their second wedding anniversary. The newspaper reports that Uday Menon was singled out for suspicion by the Telecharge operator who helped Uday purchase the ticket. The operator became suspicious of Uday because of his name, his accent and the fact that he was interested in watching a 'popular' show. Thankfully Menon's handcuffs were removed and he was let go without further embarrassment on realising that this was a false alarm.
