India and the US are poised for a "substantive leap" in military-to-military relations according to General H Shelton, Chief of the US armed forces.
General Shelton, who is currently on a two-day visit to India, also said his country would revive a joint military planning body with India.
The planning body had become inactive over the past few years, more so after India’s nuclear tests in 1998, and hence the need to reactivate it.
The body allows both countries to share information on counter-terrorism and other subjects.
The General met many senior Indian defence officers including chief of air staff Air Chief Marshal A Y Tipnis, with whom he said he had a "great interaction".
The General is the highest-level military official to visit India since 1998.
