Indian and French scientists will work together to build a new weather satellite, according to the BBC.
The Indian scientists, from ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), are currently meeting their counterparts at the French space agency,
the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES).
The satellite is to be called Megha Tropiques (Megha is Sanskrit for clouds and Tropiques French for tropics), and will be built at a cost of US $8.5 million.
The satellite will be constructed at ISRO in Bangalore, and is due to be launched by the India’s Polar Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) by 2005.
The leader of the Indian scientific team, Professor R Narasimha, was quoted as saying that the satellite will be the first dedicated satellite devoted to atmospheric research in the tropics.
