Sonia Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party in India, has urged NRIs to
do more for the country, according to media reports.
Speaking at a dinner reception organised by the Indian National Overseas
Congress at a New York city hotel, she was quoted as saying, "What we need
to do now is to mobilize and harness the resources, experience, skills and
expertise for India's faster growth and development. We will spare no
efforts in making you partners in India's progress."
She further said, ""Recently we find Indians have emerged as influential
political force. We applaud your efforts and your accomplishments."
However, more than lauding NRIs and seeking their help for the country,
Congress party sources reportedly said that she was in the US to get NRI
support to 'revitalise' the Congress party
