Pepsico, the second-largest soft drink maker in the US has named a NRI,
Indra K Nooyi as president. She has also been inducted as a director on the
board of the company. Ms Nooyi, 45, has been senior vice-president and chief
financial officer since February 2000.
Nooyi, who was born in India, holds a BS degree from Madras Christian
College, Chennai, and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in
Kolkata. She came to the United States in 1978 to attend Yale University's
Graduate School of Management.
Nooyi has been a rising corporate star for quite some time now. After
graduating from Yale, she has worked at the Boston Consulting Group,
Motorola and Asea Brown Boveri, before joining Pepsico in 1994. At PepsiCo,
Nooyi has been directly involved in every major strategic move the company
has made -- the spinoff of its fast food chains in 1997, the drive to
acquire Tropicana in 1998 and the decision to cast off PepsiCo's bottling
operations.
