Outgoing US ambassodor to India Richard Celeste has said that sanctions imposed by his country on India could be lifted within six month.
He was quoted in the media as, “I wouldn't be surprised if it happens in the next three-to-six months' time frame...given the present mood in Washington. But I don't think it will happen as immediately as people would like it.”
Mr Jaswant Singh, India’s foreign minister, recently visited the US – a trip that was highlighted by his impromptu meeting with President Bush. This was seen as an indication of the growing importance of India on the US’s foreign policy radar.
