"The Oregonian" which is the largest daily in the Pacific Northwest and edited by journalist of Indian origin, Peter Bhatia, won two Pulitzer Prizes on Monday. This includes the very prestigious award for Public Service.
Peter Bhatia 47, is the senior-most newspaper editor of Indian origin in the United States. The prestigious Public Service award is one of the few awards for teams and since it is headed by Peter, is testimony of his leadership.
Peter is the son of Lucknow born Vishnu Narain Bhatia. The senior Bhatia who first came to the United States in 1947 to get a PhD at the University of Iowa later settled in Washington, where he worked as a professor for 45 years. Peter has been the executive editor of the Oregonian for the past three years.
Among his other laurels include the fact that he has been elected as the treasurer of the American Society of Newspapers and is designated to be president of 850-member group in 2003.
