American President George Bush has accepted an invitation from foreign minister Jaswant Singh to visit India, according to the Hindu.
The President dropped in on a meeting that Mr Singh was having with Condoleeza Rice, the US National Security Advisor, and invited Mr Singh to the Oval Office where they spent a few minutes together. Mr Singh invited the President to visit India, and Mr Bush accepted.
Mr Singh also met US Secretary of State General Colin Powell, who said they had a "very, very fine meeting". The high-level contacts being afforded to Mr Singh is an indication of the importance that the US places on India.
