India's Information Technology Minister, Pramod Mahajan, is currently visiting New Zealand and Australia. He will will meet his New Zealand counterpart, Paul Swain, in Wellington today.
The Government is looking to strengthen ties between Indian IT and New Zealand's burgeoning information technology sector. This assumes special significance in light of the slowing US economy, where India currently exports over 60% of its software.
New Zealand and in particular its capital Wellington is currently the chosen destination for shooting many of Indian films. This is earning it the name Welliwood after the "Bollywood" genre of romantic movies.
Pramod Mahajan will later visit Australia hoping to further strengthen IT cooperation with that country before returning to India.
