Former Indian tennis star Vijay Amritraj has been appointed as a UN "Messenger of Peace" by Secretary General Kofi Annan, the BBC reports.
Amritraj, 47, plans to focus on children’s issues and the needs of handicapped children, especially in developing countries.
He was quoted as saying, "There's so much rampant abuse, abuse of their rights, abuse of these child labour laws, abuse of orphan children, handicapped children, and ... all they're looking for is that love and care besides their basic needs".
