In its attempt to establish a presence in Europe, India’s emerging designer clothing industry is storming the European fashion capital itself. Following in the steps taken earlier by Ritu Beri, another well known Indian fashion designer J.J. Valaya unveiled his collection in Paris last weekend.
According to an AFP report, Valaya, 33, graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi. For 10 years now he has been in the fashion business and has already had shows in Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, London, Dubai and New York.
The recent Indian fashion shows in Paris have been held under the auspices of the Indian Embassy there. Along with the commercial angle, there is a diplomatic twist to these events. The Indian ambassador in France, Mr. Kanwal Sibal even stated that staging fashion shows was part of an overall diplomatic strategy. "Everyone knows that the best way to woo the French is through food and fashion."
