The Indian Foreign Minister Mr. Jaswant Singh opened the new Indian embassy in Berlin on Thursday. According to an AFP report, the ceremony was attended by his German counterpart Joschka Fischer.
The two ministers lit candles at the embassy building. The building is constructed using red sandstone specially imported from India. It also comprises an Indian cultural and trade centre.
The German minister foreign minister, Mr Fischer, who made two official visits to India in 2000, said the country was an important partner for Germany.
