Norway may consider opening its doors to Indian software professionals, according to Indian software
companies currently exploring the market for their products in non-English speaking countries.
Relaxation of work permits in Norway, if it comes about, could
lead to job opportunities for 20,000 Indian software
professionals entering Norway. Apparently, Oslo will have to
draw up a special scheme to enable Indian software companies send
professionals on a temporary basis to this Scandinavian country.
Germany, another traditionally reticent country in issuing work
permits, has already granted the same number of 20,000 green
cards to Indian software professionals. An association of
software companies, Nasscom, surmised Oslo's willingness to
consider a scheme permitting Indians to take up temporary
residence from a speech by the Norwegian Minister of Trade and
Industry and discussion held with her later.
A Nasscom team together with representatives of leading IT
companies is in Europe to increase Indian software exports to
non-English speaking countries besides Norway.
