Karnataka CM urges Kannadiga NRIs to adopt schools

The Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr. S.M. Krishna, today urged NRIs, particularly Kannadigas, who were in wealthy jobs, to adopt elementary schools in the State where they received their primary education. He appealed to NRIs to spare a thought to their rural background to find ways to improve their Alma Mater by adopting schools.

Mr. Krishna was speaking at a function here where Motorola handed over educational kits worth about Rs. 2 crores to the Belgaum- based Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). About 70 engineering colleges will benefit from the tie-up.

The Government, Mr. Krishna said, was evolving a scheme to offer various options in the adoption of elementary schools. He said it was necessary to establish meaningful synergy between universities and industries.

Calling for increased participation by private sector in education, Mr. Krishna emphasised the need for meaningful reforms in the syllabus of universities.

The State Government, he said, had created 10,000 engineering seats related to Information Technology. He also stated that he will not hesitate to set up more engineering colleges to meet the global demand. He also said IT-based education had been launched in 1,000 government schools to prepare the students for tomorrow's opportunities.
