One of the UK’s most influential Hindu figures has been murdered in a knife attack, according to the BBC. A murder enquiry has now been launched.
Harish Purohit, 42, was stabbed to death, and his body was found on Friday (October 20) in a house that had been set on fire.
Mr Purohit was the Secretary of the National Association of Hindu priests and president of the Hindu Federation. He was also a priest at the Shree Shakti Mandir in Leicester city.
Harish’s brother, Janardan Purohit, said that he was not aware of any motive for the killing and was quoted as saying, ""They found my brother lying in a pool of blood. There were multiple wounds. It had obviously been a vicious attack." He added, "he was very well known within the UK and abroad. He was a very loving and caring person. He always wanted to help anybody whatever their colour or creed."
Grieving family members and worshippers said prayers at the Shakti Mandir on Saturday.
