A barrister of Indian origin has been appointed by the British government to
review the cases of people who've been refused entry to the UK, and also
have no right of appeal.
The post, that of Independent Monitor of entry clearance (visa) refusal
cases, will be taken up by Rabinder Singh, 36, a barrister who's acted on
behalf of both the UK Home Office and immigrants in many cases.
A Foreign Office minister, Keith Vaz, also of Indian origin, was quoted as
saying, "He [Singh] has been selected because he is the best candidate out
of a very, very good field. He is one of the brightest barristers of this
generation."
Mr Singh graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge and also studied at
Berkley, California.
