Research conducted by a Canadian university suggests that Indians are more likely to suffer from heart disease than the Chinese or Europeans, the BBC reports.
The study, by McMaster University in Ontario, found that the higher risk of heart disease was linked to a condition called carotid atherosclerosis, which was more common among South Asians than the Chinese and Europeans.
Further, a spokesperson for the British Heart Foundation was quoted as saying that "BHF statistics show that the death rate from coronary heart disease is 46% higher in South Asian men than the UK population as a whole, for women it is 51% higher."
