One of the first Ayurvedic hospitals outside India opened recently in London. According to a BBC report, the Ayurvedic Charitable hospital has five doctors and 30 beds and will offer free treatment to patients suffering with chronic ailments. The hospital will receive funding initially from trustees, but will depend on support from donors after that. Ayurveda is an ancient Indian practice which was evolved thousands of years ago. It is based on a spiritual approach to life, strict diet and herbal remedies. One of the hallmarks of this practice is that it takes into account the differences between individuals.
Ayurveda has gained popularity recently in the western world thanks to celebrities like Madonna and Naomi Campbell who are using it.
