The growing clout of US Indians was highlighted when a group of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs dined with Presidential hopeful Al Gore at a fund-raising dinner recently, according to the Mercury News.
Among the Indians were the usual suspects - Sabeer Bhatia (of Hotmail), Kanwal Rekhi and Suhas Patil (Cirrus Logic). Mr Rekhi was quoted as saying, "The political parties are beginning to discover that Indians have a desire to participate, and they are beginning to tap us."
Other Indians at the event included Gaurav Dhillon, the CEO of Informatica; Anil Godhwani, the founder of Atweb; Shailesh Mehta, the CEO and chairman of Providian Bank; Vish Akella, an early executive at Cisco Systems; and Rama Ayasola, a co-founder of Vicinity Corp.
Each guest paid US $50,000 to attend the dinner, hosted at Mr Bhatia's penthouse in San Francisco. But the Mercury News also said that Mr Bhatia can't vote - he only has a green card and has not yet become a citizen.
