A group of wealthy NRIs is to give $1 billion to create an Indo-US institute of science and technology in India, according to the Business Standard yesterday.
The institute, called the "Global Institute of Science and Technology", has the University of California (Berkeley) as its first foreign partner, and will have six locations in India.
The NRIs funding the venture include Gururaj Deshpande, Vinod Gupta, Vinod Khosla and Arjun Malhotra; they've already committed about US $300 million.
