The US should revise visa rules to ensure that it stays competitive in the fight for global IT talent - a significant competitive advantage in the world economy, according to an article in the Washington Post today.
The article warns the US that countries such as Australia, the UK and Germany are waking up to the skills that foreign IT workers (those in India, Russia and Ireland for example) bring.
The author argues that the H1B visa system should be revised so that numerical limits become irrelevant, and instead, the visa system should encourage a "total package" approach, which offers, amongst other things, permanent visas for those who prove themselves. This is especially because the global fight for IT talent will become more intense in the future.
