According to a report by The Associated Press, a leading German politician
and former education minister Juergen Ruettgers coined the slogan 'Kinder
statt Inder' which in German means 'children instead of Indians'. This was
in response to the German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's recently announced
plan of issuing work permits to computer experts from India and other non-
European union countries.
Juergen Ruettgers, a member of the Christian Democratic party is hoping to
become the governor of Germany's most populous state North Rhine-Westphalia.
He was quickly accused of being xenophobic by his opposing Social democratic
party, who say he is trying to cover his poor record of not promoting high
tech education as education minister.
Mr Ruettgers however defended his position by saying he considered it
"immoral" to pull the "intellectual elite" out from a Third World country.
