Andrew Lloyd Webber the famous British composer and creator of plays like
'Cats' now plans to create a Indian musical titled 'Bombay Dreams'.
Unveiling his plans on Tuesday in Mumbai, Mr Webber said "Bombay Dreams
is all about Bombay," and added that he wants to use all the components
of Bollywood.
The musical will be produced in collaboration with famous Indian film director
Shekhar Kapur, with the music being composed by Indian songwriter A.R. Rehman.
"This is the first time I have invited another composer to write a musical
for the stage," said Lloyd Webber, who described Rehman as "one of the most
exciting young composers of our time."
Commenting on Bollywood's rather predictable plots, Mr Webber made it
clear that there was no intention of trifling this genre, but rather to
follow the Bollywood style and slowly move to an international format.
He further added "It will be an extension of Indian culture presented
in English to a wider audience ... We have to laugh with the show and not
at it."
The theme of the musical revolves around the experiences of a young
Indian in Bombay with dreams of a career in the movie business.
