As some of you may already know, the Governor of Ohio state (USA) issued a resolution declaring January 26th this year as the "Republic of India Day", in recognition of the contributions of Ohio's Indian community. And to honor of the day, the Indian flag was flown on the State Capital grounds.
In the resolution passed in early January, the Governor, Mr Bob Taft, stated that he saluted the Asian Indians for their contributions to the "multicultural diversity and quality of life in the State of Ohio".
The resolution stressed the common principles the two countries – India and the US – share, including democracy, freedom and universal peace.
Congratulations to Ohio's Indian community for bringing plaudits to both nations.
However, it is unclear if this is a one-off event, or whether the day will be marked in similar fashion every year.
